Little Poppit

Poppit after rehab
Little Poppit is a local pony to the centre and had always been owned by local village people. We noticed this little mare during the winter months when taking the ponies for a walk on the beach and made some enquiries to see if we could help. As usual these we declined, we kept an eye on the little mare and kept vigulant to her weight. Then in May this year we received a call for help from her owners. They adored their little mare and as she began to shed her coat they realised there was a problem. Little Poppit had really not been caught for about 2 years, and lived amongst a herd of cows, even getting in the box with them when they were being herded to return to the farm. So when we received the call for help, we knew we had problems. Julianne and Karen went with some fibre feed to have a look at the little mare and knew immediately there was a dental problem. They spoke to the owners who agreed to allow little poppit to the centre for some corrective dental work and management programme. It took 3 of them to catch Poppit Julianne, Arwyn and Karen spent 3 hours catching her and eventually she was in the trailer. Little Poppit began her rehabilitation but with 5 days of isolation she refused to eat anything but hay (which was imporssible) or grass. So Julianne decicded to turn her out with the other old ladies. She went through an intensive de lice programme and there seemed to be thousands of them on her. She still can be difficult to be caught but loves to be groomed.

T hese are ponies that have been helped by a society that receives no public
funding, but purely relies on membership, support and donations from people
who also care for older horses or who have a compassion for older horses and
ponies. Without the VHS these little ponies would have surely not have come
to a heavenly end. This is where you have helped.
