New for 2008

Whilst we do appreciate the growing standard of the Society Member’s horses, we also realise that not all horses will be able to compete at a high and competitive level and appreciate that some Members may only wish to compete at a very local level or their veterans are not able to travel long distances, so, for 2008 we are offering to sponsor a limited amount of local shows, where we will offer the first 3 highest placed members (they must hold a valid showing and membership card), 1st, 2nd and 3rd rosettes and be able to enter our end of year ‘phtographic competition with their horses’. All we need is for shows to contact the society for an application form and complete and return to head office.

These will NOT be qualifying classes for Olympia or the Summer Championship Show and will be run completely separately from the VHS Showing Series. It is open to all shows who hold small veteran classes. If you would like to forward an sae to head office or email Julianne Aston at the email address below, she will forward an application to you. The winner of the photographic competition will be announced at the end of 2008 and the winner will receive prizes, amongst which will be either 1 years free membership and other relevant veteran products. The photograph may be you and your veteran or just your veteran, just something that you feel shows your veterans personality, so it is completely up to you what you would like to submit, but it will not be judged as if they were in the ring.

Please note that this is for non-competitive members, and those who compete at competitive levels are discouraged to enter and will not be entered into the end of year competition.

Help the VHS to save money send us your old age badge when ordering your new one!

The Society would like to confirm that it is the only official showing organisation that is affiliates the older horse or pony and is no way associated to any new organisation that maybe launched, without full notification to supporters and members. Mrs Linda McLintock and associates are not now involved with any activities in connection with the Society.

Any show who has had previous contact with the Society is invited to contact us at their earliest convenience to renew show applications. New applications from County to local level are always welcomed.

Showing Questions & Answers

Q.  What age can I join my veteran to the Society
A. 15 and over, there is no age limit, we do ask that owners consider all elements when travelling a horse over the age of 35 to a show.

Q. How do I qualify for Olympia?
A. You need to first join the Society, forms are available here to download.  Then go to any of the qualifying shows that are on our showing site.  This changes daily so do email the society for an up to date list.  You need to be one of two highest placed members of your class to gain a qualification card.  You will then send this card to the showing office, who will then send you all the information you need to allow you to attend the next round, this is the Regional Final.  The Champion of the Regional Final goes to Olympia.  This year you can go to as many Regional Finals as you wish, BUT if anyone is seen to travel their veterans up and down the country and to every Regional their membership will be revoked and they may not compete in these classes until the following year, if at all.

Q.  when is my renewal due?
A. You will be contacted by the Society when your renewal is due.

Q. What do I get for my membership?
· The opportunity of qualifying for Olympia
· Quarterly magazine dedicated to all aspects of the older horse
· Money off Dodson & Horrell products and a guide to feeding
· Information on a new veteran insurance policy from Petplan.
· Showing World (glossy bi-monthly magazine)
· Information on all the shows.
· Product and associated information.
· Ways of fund raising for our nominated charity – Veteran Horse Welfare.
· Free advice on care and welfare of your veteran
· Members Handbook
· VHS judges are now panel guided, so you will be judged by some of the best judges in the world.
· Your veteran is now registered for life, but you will need a showing card each year for him/her, this is included free of charge for the first year and £12.00 thereafter, it will expire on 31st December each year.
· The opportunity of attending and showing at our Summer Championship
· Dressage, Carriage Driving, workers.
· A percentage of your membership goes towards the rehabilitation of the horses cared for by Veteran Horse Welfare, so we are unique for this and many other reasons.
