Showing Committee

We are pleased to introducing for 2008 the new VHS showing committee

Julianne Aston

Founder of the Society and heads the welfare department. Julianne founded the society on the care and welfare of the older horse, so her role on the committee is to ensure that every step is taken to safe guard the welfare of competing horses. One job is to check that under the new regulations, horses are not chasing qualifiers which could give cause to their welfare and well being.

Clare Frost

I am the VHS Showing Secretary and Joint Chairperson, though like many others I will be wearing many different hats!
I feel strongly towards the VHS Welfare and the Showing of the older horses/ponies , whom quite often come into the ring with more zest for life and enthusiasm than many younger
Horses / ponies.
The new committee, whom hold too many years of showing dressage/driving experience to mention, sincerely hope to take the VHS into a new era.
I have been on both sides of the fence from a being Competitor, Breeder, and Judge. Having being in this fantastic industry for some 40 years ( Gosh this makes me feel old) competing at local and county level riding my fathers Show Ponies, Working Hunters, Show Horses, Show Jumpers, working with Race Horse, Point to Point riding. I am unable to ride now but enjoy driving our fell pony George. We have gone full circle with my son Joshua from lead rein classes threw to ridden horse classes
I am on the judge’s panel for the VHS, BSPS, and CHAPS
I hope I may be able to put something back into this equestrian industry and help the VHS.

ROB BUCKLEY FROM STAFFORDSHIRE

I have been a devoted member of the VHS for many years, and will continue to do so. I have been part of the VHS showing team for the past 4 years. this mainly in an advisory capacity. I have been very fortunate to have judged Olympia on behalf of the society, then following on to become the senior judge for the VHS, from which I have now retired.

With regards to my equine background. I have been involved with ponies and horses since I was a child. I have ridden from childhood into adult life. I have competed successfully at all levels. I now ride for pleasure. I have bread both ponies and horses for the show ring. I am on the judging panels of the following societies BSPS, CHAPS, NCPA, P(UK), VHS and BSPA.

I have always tried where possible to support the society with regards to attending as many shows where VHS classes are being held, as I believe this as being important for support and networking between competitors, judges, and VHS officials alike. I think that this gives one an awareness of being able to see others point of view. I also feel the time has come where members have a right to be consulted regarding the way they want their society to go.

Regards
Rob Buckley

JAYNE MORRISON

I am working with the VHS Show Committee Team sorting Reps and Queries, also and I'll be helping with entries at the BIG 2 Day Open Show
I have enjoyed looking after horses since I was very young and worked for a very special showjumping trainer Carmen Lanni in Cheshire as soon as I left school. I met Mark in South Africa in the horse scene and we have two other children Justin and Ben.
I don't ride now but I love watching Heather and Mark ride and helping out at the yard.

MARK MORRISON

Mark is helping his wife Jayne with Reps and Queries. He was a commentator for our 2 day Open Show at Arena UK standing in on very short notice (none!!) and did a magnificent job on the 4 Outdoor Rings !

Mark was born in South Africa where he enjoyed showjumping his own horses until his Military Service. He then went on to manage a yard and compete for the South African Defence force Show Jumping Team.

Presently he helps out at a yard in Henbury, Cheshire where Heather's pony is kept.

Mark would like to become an Intelligent Horsemanship Trainer

Arywn Jones

Arwyn joined the VHS in 2003, when he married Julianne! He organises the transport of the horses at the centre and deals with the rescuing. Arwyn is welsh speaking and represents the Society at local and county level welsh shows.

TREVOR FROST

I have been running my own Farrier/ Blacksmith business in the Staffordshire area for some 30 years, and well understand the care that must be taken in looking after the older horse & pony. Shoeing a range of horses from show animals, hunters, show jumpers, driving ponies, trotters, and under take some remedial and therapeutic work..
I help run two shows where I am the Course Builder and Show Jump Judge plus many other jobs which I end up doing, starting with those three little words “ can you just”
We have 5 horses/ponies at home and I do still like to compete in In hand showing classes.
I have stewarded for the VHS and the BSPS. I steward for my wife Clare at many shows . I feel very privileged to be stewarding at Olympia this year.
I hope that what ever in put I may bring to this society will of benefit to both horse and competitor.

I have been involved with the VHS since the early days and currently run the increasingly popular VHW Pony Adoption Scheme. I have two horses at home, who I like to Show whenever I have time. My mischevious 25 year old is my pride and joy and just loves to show off in his Veteran Classes!

Junior Committee

Josh Frost

My self and Heather Morrison .we are hoping to put together a junior page on the website and a page in the Voice of the Veteran , these pages we hope will consist of puzzles games etc questions and answers plus we would like junior members views on all aspects of riding and shows etc

I am 14 years old and have been riding I am told since I was two. My first show was at the age of three on my lead rein pony
Ridings Busy Bee, he taught me to ride and we had many years of good times and too many first rosettes and championships to mention in first ridden ,show pony ,mountain & moorland , veteran classes. He sadly died at the age of 22, Amos will always be close to my heart.
I hope in years to come to be able to be considered for the stewards panel .
If any junior members have any ideas for the junior page please
e-mail me on joshfrost@fsmail.net

HEATHER MORRISON

Here are pictures of Heather, she is 14yrs old, and is currently working on the Junior Voice of the Veteran page with Josh Frost. Heather is most famous for becoming the first Overall Supreme Champion at the Veteran Open Show, at Arena UK 2006, with her fabulous 21 year old Show Hunter Pony Fayre Primrose.

Heather has ridden since she was 3yrs old, and enjoys showing the most of
all disiplines. She now has a four year old show pony, called Twiggy (AKA
Harroway Touch Of Class) that she is bringing on.
