VHS Alibi

Spring 2008
Alibi has wintered well this year, spending all his time with his giant friend
Hercules. Alibi is not been ridden this year so he is as mischievous as ever.
Alibi still loves his play sessions with Tommy, he has lots of fun with his
playball at night and anything else that he can use as a toy.
Alibi cannot have a lot of protein in his diet as he becomes tied up, therefore
his feed is quite simple. He is still on his leisure mix which he loves with
fibergy and garlic. He has held his weight well and if anything is looking rather
round for the time of year.
Alibi
Weight: 540 kg
Alibi has spent summer with Hercules happily enjoying April and May’s
sunshine, but has hated the wet cold mid summer months. Most of it he
has spent in his rug, but for a few warm days. His feed has been dropped
to a high fibre diet with plenty of garlic to help keep the flies away from
him. He still adores playing with Tommy, so at tea time he is allowed
an hour or so to play and skip around the restriction paddock. He had
the dentist in July and all teeth are very good and only slightly worn.
Thank you for visiting Ali’s site and if you wish to adopt him or Hercules

PAST HISTORY
Many Members will remember Alibi a 16.2hh Dark bay thoroughbred gelding who was rehomed in autumn of 2001. He is cared for by staff here at H/O and re-homed to Linda Goodman who has him here on full livery. Linda now has three horses here at the centre, including Alibi’s best friend, Hercules. Linda had originally planned to buy a smallholding and take them there, but because they are all so happy here, she has decided it is in their best interests for them to remain here at the centre. Especially as Alibi is now being brought back into work. Linda hopes that Alibi might be able to do some showing as he seems to really enjoy his light hacking and is so fit and healthy again. He is also immaculately groomed and has impeccable manners.
His rehabilitation was a slow process, first working on eliminating his mud
fever and tendon problems. We also had to gradually increase his feed (His diet
is shown below). Staff worked on his insecurities about being separated from
the horses he had bonded with, first taking him for short walks to another field
away from his friends. Now he does not panic for any one horse and as you can
see he is a picture of health, a truly stunning horse with a great sense of
fun and huge character. In fact he is an incredibly playful horse and acts as
he should.
Alibi is yet another success story from the V.H.S. Thank you for supporting
my self and the staff for the all work done here and around the UK.
Alibi now is on 4llb of Fibre G and 2lb of Pasture nuts, he maintains his weight with this and grass, assisted by regular dental checks to ensure he is able to chew his feed
Summer 2006
Alibi is still very close to Hercules and has had a very long winter. He is
now enjoying some much needed summer sun. During the winter he lost his sarciod
which gave us no cause for concern. Now he has another small one growing on
the opposite side of his body, which means if we do hack him out we have to
be very careful not to touch it.
He now wears his Old
Mac boots during the day as the ground is very hard and does hurt his soles
as they are very low.
Summer routine.
Summer Feed
During the months that he is out 24/7 this is his routine and feed.
The yard wakes up at 8.00am and all the horses are brought in for feed. Depending
who is in which paddocks depends on where in the line they come in. Hercules
and Alibi come in 4th on the top yard so usually this is about 8.30am
He is fed
4lb of Fibregy
1lb of Pasture NUTS.
15ml of garlic
100ml of Sarc-X
100ml of equivita.
1 pint of water.
He is then thoroughly
groomed and his boots removed as his feet get very hot if the sun does come
out effol put onto his feed or his feet soaked in water.
Thoroughly covered
in fly spray with a little coat conditioner added to keep him clean and cool.
He is then turned out with Hercules into the middle section field.
At 3pm he is taken from the middle with Alibi and into his night paddock The Barn field. Where a large dutch barns allows the thoroughbreds and larger horses to have plenty of room to shelter from the sun or rain.
