VHS JERRY
Jerry is looking forward to a lazy
winter relaxing in this stable surrounded by people who love him and companions
that guide him.

Spring 2008
Jez has done really well this winter. Unlike last year Jez has spent much of
his days in the hay field with most of the other horses at the centre. Although
Mel his very special to him, he is much less reliant on her and has been seen
spending more time socialising with the other horses and even grooming them.
His favourite spot is in the shelter of the gorse bushes at the bottom of hayfield.
Jez had problems in the brunt of the winter with poor circulation and cold legs
and was given bright red leg wraps to keep him warm. He’s now moved to
a warmer box where he can be next to not only Melody but also Harry who originally
came into the centre with him. He loves his new box and the company of his two
good friends who also lets him share their net with him on a night. He is spending
a lot more time in the field than he did last winter and copes better with the
windy and wet weather, due to his bad eye he does have to come in on really
bad days. He is losing is winter coat and has almost got his summer coat through
as he started moulting very early this year. He still suffers with bad feet
which have to be cleaned carefully twice daily.
Jez is still on Build up as he doesn’t move around a lot and has not regained
the muscle he lost last year and is given a hay replacer on a night as well
as is hay. He is also on a supplement to help his digestive system as he did
start to scour a lot earlier in the year.

Jerry or know now to us all as Jez, has had a very
lazy winter and spent many lazy hours in his stable sleeping. As they grow older
they do need many more hours of sleep. Still very close to Melody, he still
relies on her eyes and smell to get around his paddock. This winter he spent
her turnout in the top barn field, but has grown a hate to any wind or rain,
so was brought in usually after 2 hours of turnout.
As he hates to cold and wet he has been stabled for most of the winter, his
muscle loss is greater than any other years, so for this reason he has been
put onto Build Up cubes.
Jez is loved by all who work with him and is so
trusting around everyone, he is a big favourite will adoption and everyone who
works on the yard.
This winter and spring, he has been on a high protein feed as his teeth are
also showing wear and tear, so we have to compensate with his hard feed.
Jez is a big fan of Scott Mills on radio1 and as
soon as he hears his voice he will start shouting for his evening feed and then
hay and hay replacer.
If you would like to assist in Jez’s care and welfare, you can adopt him
through our adoption scheme.
Thank you for reading Jerry’s story.
