Melody is another VHS horse that has done remarkably well this year. After getting cast in her stable earlier in the year it was decided that she would be better in the barn where she walk around to keep herself warm and have more space to lie down and get up. Mel’s sparky personality took hold in this space and but after a few weeks of cantering round the chippings like a lunatic she settled down. She loves having the space that she now shares with her man, Harry. She is losing her winter coat and her summer coat is coming through healthy and bright.
Her legs have improved a great deal and even though her tendons will never be 100% she no longer needs to wear her bandages. She loves been out in the hayfield and is getting on very well with Simon and Milly.
Again her weight is good this year so she doesn’t really need a high protein feed. She also gets through her own weight in hay every night as her teeth are still very healthy.

Mel is still a very loving little mare with bags of personality, she is Jerry’s eyes and is our very special ‘guide horse’.
Her weight has been easily maintained this winter and is a real good dooer, she did have a little alpha A this winter, but will put weight on just looking at grass.

She has had to wear support to her front tendons for most of the winter and spring and with her spavins has been bandage on all legs whilst she is stabled.

She has supplements help her arthritis, which is Cortaflex.
Her feed differs very little though the year and we really maintain her weight in accordance to the growth of grass, as she has very good teeth for her age.
