VHS MILLY

Spring 2008
Milly has done well this winter, a little too well! She hasn’t suffered
badly with choke this year but does still have her feed like soup as she does
get rather excited at feed time.
Her arthritis has been much better this winter and she has thoroughly enjoyed
playing in the snow this year with the other horses.
Her feed, due to rather round belly, is minimal:
1 Fibergy
1⁄2 Pasture nuts
Supplements
Garlic
Soya oil
Grande complete
Echinacea
Autumn 2007
Weight 577 kg 525 kg
Milly went into the summer a little
too heavy but the combination of the weather and occasionally staying out at
night, helped her to lose this. She has spent the summer with Simon quietly
and now her winter coat is starting to come through.
Milly has suffered 2 bouts of choke
over the heart, whereby she shows signs of colic, kicks her tummy and then lies
down quietly and closes her eyes restfully. To clear the blockage we encourage
her to call for Simon.
She does have an excellent quality of life, her diet is still on low protein
feed until the grass stops growing.
Her current diet
1⁄2 scoop Fibre Nuts (formerly Pasture Nuts)
2 scoops Fibregy
4 pints of water.
Milly now has a hay replacer with a small scoop of Sugar beet
3 large scoops of Fibregy
1⁄2 scoop Fibre Nuts
Small scoop of sugar beet.
Thank you for visiting Milly this Autumn and should you wish to contribute towards her upkeep, you can visit charity welfare site www.veteran-horse-welfare.co.uk where proceeds from her adoption go towards her up keep.
Spring 2007
Winter – spring 2007
Weight 540kg
Milly has had a good winter and is showing no signs of laminitis this year,
but the grass is so growing due to the lack of rain in March and April, even
being in West Wales!
She still adores Simon, but also is extremely fond
of Chloe. Her obsession with food is just the same and she adores her play ball
after tea.
She is still stabled during the evening to keep Simon company and is lightly
rugged.
Her feed has remained high in protein this winter and coming into Spring she
has not gained the weight she has in the past, so we have increased her diet
slightly.
She is currently fed
1lb chaff
2lb Leisure Mix
2lb Alpha A
this is mixed with 1⁄2 bucket of water for 6 hours and this turns into
soup like mixture, as we have to be so careful of choke.
Her supplements include Cortaflex, 15ml garlic. Although in the warmer evenings
she will come off Cortaflex, as will Simon.
Thank you for visiting Milly’s site and she
like Simon is available for adoption.
Summer 2006
Milly had rather a stressful winter, as Members will have read in the summer
edition of their Membership magazine Voice of the Veteran, she had a very rare
condition, which basically was a choke over the heart. She now has very wet
feed and careful monitoring. In March she then went down with laminitis and
this well have been brought on by such restricted turn out as the weather just
hadn’t warmed up and she does have bad arthritis in her hind joints.
Going into June she again had this rare condition and we have to monitoring
her grazing ability and laminitis. Sadly Milly is totally food oriented and
it is a constant job keeping her happily grazing and not over eating.
Routine
Milly’s routine very much depends on
the weather and temperature. We are introducing a Green Guard restrictive head
collar, to control her grazing and hope that by using this she will be able
to have a large area to graze and walk. In the afternoons she comes in for 3
hours to have a play ball and some hay, however, this may differ if the weather
is not good.
Weight:
Feed
At present Milly’s feed is totally fibre based.
4lb Fibregy
2lb Pasture nuts fed twice a day
15ml garlic
100ml Equivita
50 ml surefoot
25ml surelimb.
Thank you for visiting Milly and if you would like to visit this famous little
mare we are open from March until September daily from 11-3pm. For further information

PAST HISTORY

Milly is a 15.2hh
and was born in 1980. Milly is one of the first foals
born from world famous Dutch Courage and herself was a Grand Prix dressage horse.
She is a stunning creature but thinks she is only five years old. To ride she
is very lively. She came to the centre with behavioral problems and suffered
terrible anxiety attacks, she trusted no one. She would not be shod or tied
up in a yard. Now she has a full set of shoes and was a complete angel for our
farrier. Most of her problems have now been solved, and it just goes to show
what a bit of trust can achieve. She is a very loving mare who enjoys nothing
better than a bucket of food and a good groom.
