VHS SYLVIA

Sylvia lost her battle with arthritis in February 2008, at 42 our oldest and very first rescue.

Summer 2007

Autumn 2007

Weight: May 392kg – October 386 kg
Sylvia’s weight has dropped down slightly during the summer months. Her dental condition is not good at all and she has very few teeth, therefore as we need to slightly reduce her protein during the summer months her weight slightly drops down. We now have her on almost full winter feed as the long grazing has nearly gone and the nights are beginning to become colder.

She still has fainting fits and is unable to wear a rug, but one company has kindly donated a snug rug for her to wear, that is tightly fitting. She has fallen on 2 occasions this summer, where we had to help her up.

She remains as ever, the Grand Mother of the centre, with all her young companions looking after her now.
Sylvia is our first rescue pony as was 34 when she came to us. Her heart, kidneys and liver are slightly failing, but she has an excellent quality of life. She amazes everyone who meets her. For this reason we have included her on the new Christmas Card and T Towel, all proceeds going towards her and companions up keep.

Her feed:
1⁄2 scoop 16+ cube
1scoop sugar beeet
1⁄2 scoop Build UP
1⁄2 scoop Fibre Nuts (formally Pasture Nuts)
1⁄2 scoop maize
4 pints of water.
Supplements
Echinacea
B sure
10 ml Garlic
Milk thistle
Timmy Mix (Hilton Herbs)
Grand Complete.
Ventipulmin

Sylvia (aged 40 left) and Beloved (35 right ) with horse care assistant James

Spring 2007

Height 14hh
Weight
Sylvia has aged during this winter and this wasn’t helped by her best friend Vicky passing away in December, and her other close friend Janey in March, now there are just 2 ‘old ladies’ Sylvia and Beloved, and they are always together.
Sylvia remains the Grandmother of the herd at the centre and looks after all the horses she is with.

She is just incredible and as the first rescue and celebrating her 40th Birthday this year, she remains a very special little mare. Although her heart is slowly failing, she often faints and staff have to pick her up now and again. She waits when she falls until we get to her and just lifts her head looking. She is constantly monitored by staff during the day and by CCTV camera at night, so she really does have round the clock care.
She lost a little weight over the winter and has gone onto build up and has remained on her winter feed into spring due to her loss of teeth.

Sylvia is now fed
1lb Build Up
2lb 16+ cubes
4lb wet sugar beet
1lb maize
1lb Barley Conditioner.

Her supplements include B Sure, garlic, Coughless or Ventapulmin and Echinacea.
Sylvia and Beloved are in the barn field each day and stabled each night.

PAST HISTORY

Sylvia 8 weeks on from her arrival, and she is gaining strength daily. By donations to the society you will enable the staff to continue their work in rehabilitating ponies like Sylvia. At 40years old she is a prime example of how, with knowledgeable care, veterans should be given another chance in life.

Wedding in St Dogmaels.
She is still enjoying her retirement at Head Office.
